Hi! My name is Angie, and I’m excited you’ve stopped by for a visit! I’d love to introduce myself and tell you how I ended up designing jewelry and why I love it so much.
I’ve loved art forever. When I was just a kid, I would sit and draw for hours on end. My parents recognized that it was more than just a hobby for me and enrolled me in private art lessons, From fifth grade through senior year, I blossomed as an artist and knew I wanted to keep doing art right through college and beyond.
I went to Ball State University and majored in art, which introduced me to even more skills than I’d learned growing up. I happened to enroll in a metalsmithing class, which was something brand new for me, and I loved it more than anything else I’d ever done.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts specializing in Metalsmithing and no clue of what I should do next. Well, I did have one clue: I knew I wanted to move to Chicago! Full of fresh-out-of-college confidence and naïveté, I picked up the phone and started cold-calling jewelry stores in Chicago to see if any of them were hiring. I had no working experience (other than a high school job at a jewelry counter at Service Merchandise) and three months to find a job in Chicago.
What was I thinking?
On the third call, the lady who answered the phone told me she wasn’t hiring, and then right as she started to suggest a store around the corner from her, she paused and said to me, “You know…can you be here at eight in the morning for an interview?”
I later learned that she was a fellow Christian, and although she really had no plans to hire anyone, as we talked on the phone, the Lord prompted her to invite me in for an interview anyway. Peggie hired me and for three years, I worked for her in Evanston, Illinois, and I learned more from her on that bench job than I could ever possibly explain to you. Thank you, Peggie Robinson, for taking a chance on a brand new artist named Angie!
I ended up moving back to my home state of Indiana, where I worked on the bench at Stephen Wright Jewelers. It was a great job, but I grew weary of doing repairs, ring sizing, and general tasks when my mind was bursting with design ideas! Eventually I came home to Kokomo, Indiana, where I met my wonderful husband and had three beautiful children. For many years, I was a stay-at-home mom and in 2001, I decided to start designing jewelry on the side. Really, in one form or another, I’ve been making jewelry for 25 years, and it’s my true artistic passion.
Of course every artist needs to clear her mind so she can be creative, and I do that by working out! I love taking FIT classes (a combination of Crossfit and cardio) and running on the days I don’t go to the gym.
Before you go, I also want you to know the most important thing to me is my faith in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He has made this entire passion of mine possible by giving me the ideas and the talent to bring them to fruition. I consider this a gift, but it’s also a responsibility, and I want to honor Him by giving back. A percentage of the sales from the Christian lines of jewelry will be given to the ministries God puts on my heart, to help further His Kingdom.
Thanks for stopping by!
